Alpha Phi Omega is a Service fraternity. This means that most of our primary events are service projects. Below are a few of the projects that we are involved with, as well as a brief overview of what we do to help. We are not limited to the projects below. Beta Beta is constantly adding projects and looking for suggestions for new projects. If you have any ideas for a service project you would like to see us involved in, or if you need a group of volunteers, e-mail our VP of Service Eric Sayler, or send an e-mail to Beta Beta's APO e-mail account.

APO Run Events:

State Walk: State Walk is an on-campus nighttime walking service sponsored by Beta Beta. Pairs of volunteers walk with individuals from the main library to various campus locations. Our hours are from 9p.m. until 1a.m. The State Walk table is located near the North entrance to the library.
Chase for Charity: APO has started our own annual 5K run. Chase for Charity is designed to raise money for local and global causes. The next Chase will be in the Spring of 2007.
Have a Heart Concert: This event will hopefully become an annual event for us. Our last concert was extremely successful and we are looking forward to the next one.
Ugly Man on Campus(UMOC): Our largest self-maintained program to date. We have run this program for over 10 years. All of the money we raise is donated to the American Cancer Society in the name of the UMOC champion. UMOC is a national APO project.
Dance-A-Thon: This year, Beta Beta is putting on an 11 hour Dance-A-Thon to raise money to pave a driveway for Eve's House. Please see the Calendar, the Current Events section of the website, or search "Alpha Phi Omega Dance-A-Thon" on facebook for more information.
Fall Ball: Every fall, Beta Beta puts on a formal dinner and dance to help raise money for local organizations. For the past two years, we have raised money for the Lansing Area Aids Network.

Projects We Help:

Red Cross Blood Drive: We often help run and setup a few blood drives each year. For a few years now, we have had a blood battle versus Penn. State University.
Boo at the Zoo: We have traditionally taken part in this Halloween program. We set up a table at Potter Park Zoo and hand out candy to children that walk through the park.
Habitat For Humanity: This event has become one of the most successful projects for our chapter. We are very happy with our consistent, weekly presence in Habitat: Lansing.
Cold Turkey Trot: This is a local 5K race to raise awareness of tobacco issues and raise funds for the American Lung Association. We normally assist in setting up, taking down, serving food to the runners, and helping at the finish line. A few brothers even run in the race!
Dino Dash: This is another 5K walk/run that we assist with that benefits the Michigan State University Museum.
MSU Food Bank: Located at Olin Health Center, this program is open in the evening twice a month during the Fall and Spring Semesters. Food is distributed to those students who do not have a meal plan in the residence halls.
MSU Safe Place: We often help this organization with many different projects and fundraisers.
Ronald McDonald House: "A Home-Away-From-Home." Ronald McDonald House provides a home for families of very ill children who are receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. Once a month, APO cooks dinner for the families at the house. We also collect pop tabs for them.
Eve's House: APO spends every other week at this facility, helping the women and children with various tasks. This year, our Dance-A-Thon fundraiser will raise money to help pay for a new driveway for Eve's House.
Relay For Life: Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs for the American Cancer Soceity. During the event at Michigan State, teams of people gather around a track and take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times.
Soup Kitchen: We often help serve food to the soup kitchen located near the capitol.
